Single parent from the perspective of single fathers
Rábová, Veronika ; Hasmanová Marhánková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Pavlík, Petr (referee)
This thesis focuses on the topic of single-parent family, because this type of family, which are led only by one parent, is very relevant to our present social situation. In the context of current demographic trends related to the transformation of society in the perception of family and partner relationships, it can be assumed that their number will be continue to grow. Specifically this thesis is focused on single fathers, although many studies speaks of a certain percentage of single fathers in the Czech Republic, research on this topic has been carried out only a few times so far. For the most part, a woman is at the forefront of "incomplete" families. Single-parent family is perceived as a highly gendered experience, which is primarily related to women. The aim of this work was to find out what the experience of single parent looks like in the case of single fathers. This premise of this thesis is to explore what reasons have the fathers to choose to be single parents, what this type of commitment means for men, how they sign on their everyday life and especially how this type of primary care relates to the concept of hegemonic masculinity. Gender perspective thus provides a comprehensive insight into single-parent family and presents the perspective of the fathers themselves. For this purpose...
Lone-parent families as a public policy problem: stakeholders' frame reflection and reframing
Hejzlarová, Eva ; Veselý, Arnošt (advisor) ; Krebs, Vojtěch (referee) ; Matoušek, Oldřich (referee) ; Žižková, Jana (referee)
The main theme of the work is finding an answer to the question why in the past years Czech Parliament has failed to enforce measures improving the quality of life of lone-parent families, and what could be done for these measures to be adopted. Theoretical support for answering both questions is provided by a) frame analysis (Schőn and Rein), which works with the idea of conflicting frames and bridging conflicts through reframing, and b) the theory of social construction of target groups (Schneider and Ingram). Based on an analysis of stenographic minutes from proceedings dealing with the issue of non-payment of child support (in particular with proposals for the state to pay child support first and then to receive it from the obligor) and the arrangements connected to child custody (in particular the proposal to strengthen alternating custody), conflicting frames are reconstructed (in the case of non-payment, there are three conflicting frames, in the case of child custody two). These conflicting frames, or rather the fact that they are insufficiently addressed, may be the cause of the incapacity of Czech political representation to address the above agenda. An "efficient penalizing of the debtor" is described as a possible reframing of the problem in the field of non-payment of child support....

Hlásek, Daniel ; Hejzlarová, Eva (advisor) ; Dobiášová, Karolína (referee)
The present thesis focuses on the image of single-mothers in the selected mass media - that is to say the most read Czech newspapers. The thesis pursues several theories and the concepts such as mass media and their role in setting the agenda for public policy, the stigmatization of lone-parent families (single-mothers), the theory of social construction of target groups (Schneider and Ingram), the topic of lone-parent families and poverty, the feminization of poverty, and concept of social exclusion. The main aim of the thesis is to determine the description of single-mothers in the selected mass media and to find the links, namely between this broadly adopted picture and public policy. Thus, the thesis contains the basic characterization of the situation of single-mothers based on various statistic data, the above mentioned theories and concepts, the presentation of the analyzed newspapers and a detailed description of the method used for the research. The chosen method in the present thesis is the quantitative content analysis. It is the most suitable way to analyze a large number of texts originating from a longer period - which is exactly the case of this study. The texts were selected based on pre-determined keywords. The results of the research are presented in charts and tables - both- in the...

Single Mother's and Social Pathological Phenomenons
SYSLOVÁ, Renata
The author of the thesis is dealing with phenomenon of single parenthood and furthermore influence of social-pathological issues to a broken family. The main task of the thesis was eventually to grasp appearance and risks of these social-pathological issues in case of single mothers with one or more children and without of any support by wider family (grantparents, etc.). The thesis required two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part would reader find the issue of single parenthood. The first chapter mainly explains who is single parent (single mother), eventually reasons which leads to this status. Financial backround and possibilities in labor market of these parents are very important part of the chapter. The second chapter is dealing with description of social pathology. What does actually mean social-pathological phenomena, causes of them and which potential prevention there are. The second practical part is focused on research, e.g. qualitative research strategy, the method of interrogation. There is no avoiding of explaining the technique of semistruktured dialogue which contains five fundamental questions leading to the goal of the thesis. The sources for this part were five cooperative female participants (single mothers) without any help and support from the wider family from the Budějovice region. The author of the thesis is concerning about the beginning of this status as a single parent, economical background and their position in the labor market. Finaly the thesis illustrated appearence of social-pathological issues by these single mothers and how strongly influence them and their children. The author would like to witness gradually increasing number of single parents (single mothers), particularly their bad conditions which could be solved. There are eventually their own opinions which could serve as speakers of this actual theme.
Comparison of parents' post-divorce standard of living in relation to social construction of target populations
Horčicová, Magda ; Novotný, Vilém (advisor) ; Hejzlarová, Eva (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with social policy towards single-parent families in the Czech Republic with focus on alimony policy. I deal more closely with the standard of living by single-parent families and obligated parents. This problem is explored on the basis of theoretical framework called social construction of the target populations. Social policy towards single-parent families does not reflect their needs at the right time. Different approach could lead to improvement of their standard of living. The Czech society has not come with an agreement on reforming the social system to more benefit the single-parent families. Despite the fact that the concept of supporting single-parent families has been formally accepted by European Union and Czech government as one of the top priorities, this proclamation has not brought any real change to the single-parent families` standard of living. I try to understand a present situation/image of social policy towards single-parent families in regard to alimony policy with an application of theoretical framework social construction of the target population basis. For this purpose, I identify the real social construction of single-parent families and obligated parents in the political discourse. I examine the policy suggestions on alimony, and the...
Single Mothers and their Assertion on the Labour Market in the Czech Republic
Kušnirová, Žaneta ; Zrcková, Alžběta (advisor) ; Kotrusová, Miriam (referee)
This thesis focuses on the situation of single mothers on the labour market and the possibilities of reconciling work and family life. The work also focuses on the negative impacts of being a single parent on recruitment and participation on the labour market. Changing family behaviour in recent years has led to an increase of incomplete families. Given that the vast majority of incomplete families are mothers living with at least one dependent child, this thesis focuses on single mothers. The thesis also deals with single mothers because of their problematic state on the labour market. Through three theoretical background papers, the thesis describes the causes and risks associated with being a single parent, assistance available to single mothers, both financial and non-financial, and tools for reconciling work and family life of single mothers. To analyse these topics, secondary data were used. The conclusion of this thesis focuses on current family and employment situation of single mothers and the possible forms of discrimination on the labour market. Data from performed qualitative research were primarily used. Generally, mothers may encounter problems in reconciling work and family life and the labour market discrimination for the reasons of sex and motherhood. For single mothers, this area...
Medial portrayal of single parents in daily press
Vytisková, Tereza ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Maříková, Hana (referee)
The aim of the thesis was to investigate how single parents is presented in daily press. Single parents is an important today social problem so I find this as an important research field. The media have the power to influence our thoughts and opinions. I wonder who has the opportunity to comment in the media, what the distribution of individual information sources are and who talks about this (laymen, sociologist, psychologists or representatives of various organizations). The research was conducted through quantitative and qualitative content analysis. This thesis focuses on the differences between people who talks about single parents and also tries to point out how "single mother" is displayed by media and what it means for us.
